There was a certain\u00a0 man who knew from a very young age that he wanted to be married when he grew up.\u00a0 His parents had told him that marriage was a source of great joy and blessing.\u00a0 And so it happened that when he was in his mid twenties he met a nice woman at a social event.<\/p>\n
After they had talked for a while, he asked her, “Will you marry me?”
\nA\u00a0little startled, she replied, “Ok. When do you have in mind?”
\n“Tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 in the courthouse.”
\n“That’s fine” she replied.
\nBy 3:30 the next day, the Justice of the Peace had pronounced them “man and wife”.\u00a0\u00a0The new groom turned to his wife, smiled, shook her hand, and said
\n“Thank you so much.\u00a0 This has been a great desire of mine.\u00a0 Goodbye.”
\nShe replied, “You’re welcome. Goodbye.\u201d<\/p>\n
A number of years later, a friend asked him,
\n“I\u2019ve always wondered why you never got married.”
\n“Oh, I did get married, years ago; look here’s my framed marriage certificate.\u201d
\n” I’m sorry” replied his friend, a little puzzled, “Are you divorced, or did your wife die?”
\n“Oh no\u201d came the quick reply, \u201cI’m still married.”
\n“Well then, where’s your wife?” asked his friend, even more puzzled.
\n“Oh, I don’t know.\u201d
\n\u201cHaven’t you talked with her since you got married?”
\n\u201cNo\u201d he replied simply.
\n“Then why in the world did you get married?\u201d asked his now astonished friend.
\n“Well, my parents told me that marriage was a source of great joy and blessing in life” he explained with a little indignation.
\n“So has it been?”
\n“Well I’m sure that it has been.\u00a0 My parents wouldn\u2019t lie to me.”<\/p>\n
I trust this story sounds ridiculously absurd.\u00a0 But, is it any more absurd than the notion that you can “become a Christian” and never have any communication with God, never walk with Him, never know<\/em> Him?\u00a0 Some people mistakenly think that they can believe a few things about Jesus, raise their hand, sign a card, live their life as they please, and then go to live with God in Heaven when they die.<\/p>\n
